World Town Leadership Summit: The Future of Place

There are so many global issues at play which cities are exposed to.

Cities are working to overcome specific post-pandemic problems such as a slow return to the office, fears around the rise of anti-social behaviour and a reboot to the visitor economy. While attempting to overcome these issues, cities are now engulfed by inflationary pressures triggered by huge shortages in labour, goods, and energy which threaten business viability.

While all of this consumes our attention, in the background longer-term trends and challenges persist. The fourth industrial revolution (not least the (r)evolution of AI) and the climate crisis, each require our attention to ensure the built environment is future proof.

The urban place management industry has been entrusted with both navigating the short-term challenges and the future-proofing of city centres long-term, and this must be a global effort. This is why, for 2023, the International Downtown Association is reconvening the World Town Leadership Summit bringing together a small group of place leaders across the globe. This, the first such summit post-pandemic, will be themed ‘The Future of Place’ and will be hosted in the UK. The agenda will explore how place management, in particular BIDs, need to evolve to rise to the challenge.

Delegates from across the UK and Ireland are being invited to participate in sessions over three days in London and Manchester from the 11th July to the 13th July. Book now to register your interest.
