About the Event
As a society, we are living longer, and as a result, the demographics of our nighttime economies are shifting. Alongside this, we are seeing clear generational changes in behaviour across our towns and cities at night, including reduced alcohol consumption among Gen Z. Together, these trends highlight the need to rethink who our nighttime spaces are designed for.
There is a large and growing demographic of people aged 50 and over who could be engaging with our nighttime economies, but often are not. Whether due to perceptions of nightlife, a lack of appropriate offer, or challenges around transport and accessibility, this represents a significant missed opportunity.
This raises a critical question: how can we make older audiences feel more welcome after dark, and in doing so strengthen the evening and nighttime economy for everyone?
