High Street Conversations: Power Struggle

We have an energy crisis, and it threatens to engulf the high street. Moderate, upward pressure on prices began as the global economy responded following lockdown meaning demand temporarily outstripped supply. But, when Russia invaded Ukraine, we entered a new phrase of the inflationary pressures. Sharp increases in energy prices are a direct threat to the survival of businesses large and small everywhere and even threaten to disrupt local authority finances. But the indirect impacts are horrendous too. They are a driver of huge inflationary pressures households, meaning falls in spending. The fall in living standards are also triggering strikes for key parts of the workforce meaning further disruption.

This session of High Street Conversations will examine challenges around energy and look to understand what the implications are an how the place management industry can respond.
