About the Event
Communities ‘taking back control’ has become the buzz phrase for the UK Government. To turn this into practice, ministers have put in to motion the devolution of powers from Westminster to regions. However, this cannot be effective without further change.
The government has recognised that for devolution to be effective it requires an overhaul of local government with he scrapping of district councils in favour of unitaries and strategic authorities. The implications for the place management industry are huge.
What does this mean for local authority members and BID members? How will this redefine service provision such as economic development, licensing and planning? How does this change decision-making in town centres large and small? Do local elections complicate the process.
The next meeting of ATCM South East will consider the biggest change to local government. It will also include time for a general member’s round up to discuss Christmas performance.
