All-Party Parliamentary Group for Town Centres: Setting Parliamentary Priorities

There are multiple issues at play for town centres. 

Retail crime and ASB continues to dominate the headlines. Bringing empty properties back into use remains top of mind as towns grapple with the legacy of Arcadia and Debenhams closures. The loss of banks, a cost of operating crisis for small businesses and the challenges around a lack of public investment also pose problems.

As the new government aims to introduce more police on the the street, expand High Street Rental Auctions, reform business rates, reform planning and create more community banking hubs, we need to ensure successful outcomes. The APPG for Town Centres returns with the principal task of holding the government to account. With so much happening, our first question is 'what should the priorities be?'
