TEAM LONDON BRIDGE ARE SEARCHING FOR AN INTERIM OPERATIONS MANAGER

Job Title: Interim Operations Manager – Environment & Community Safety
 
Responsible to: The Chief Executive


Assignment: 4 months contract, immediate start,  based in the London Bridge area, office and location based.  Fixed-term employment or independent contractor basis
 
Salary: Annual salary rate of c£50,000, pro-rated to fixed-term contract or equivalent day rate if self-employed contractor

London Bridge – The Area 
London Bridge has been a commercial dynamo for centuries and is today home to a community of businesses that range from multi-nationals to art galleries and seats of government. It is, in short, one of the world’s most notable places to do business. 
             
It is a thriving commercial hub and destination. More than 50,000 workers access the 350 plus businesses located here, while London Bridge Station accommodates in excess of 200,000 travellers a day. Some 3000 residents call London Bridge home, and it has over 5 million visitors a year taking in the sights.

Main Purpose

  • To manage the contracts delivering services on environment and community safety, liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders (e.g Safer Neighbourhood groups) including contractors and security services (Southwark Police, MET Police and BTP).

 
Community safety
Since the inception of TLB business have identified safety and security as their number-one priority.  Due to the many iconic sites in the area and high footfall London Bridge is a high-risk area in terms of the terrorism threat and also experiences increasing levels of acquisitive crime (bag, mobile phone and bike theft). It is therefore essential that the BID helps to increase preparedness for and resilience to terror attacks, and tackle crime affecting BID members, their staff, and visitors.

  • Manage the funded police officers from the Met and BTP – setting taskings according to crime priorities, organising crime prevention and training events and liaising with businesses where they require police support.     


  • Manage and continue to roll out the recently implemented Team London Bridge Alerts’ Mass Notification Platform & App


  • Develop, roll out and manage the subsidised Southwark Safe BCRP radio and DISC scheme.


  • Continue to deliver a programme of training opportunities/events for businesses around crime prevention, counter-terrorism, business continuity and resilience.


  • Work with stakeholders and TLB’s responsible Business and Events Manager to help address issues of homelessness and rough sleeping within the BID area.


  • Manage and develop the Southwark Security & Resilience Forum, working with all partners to ensure London Bridge remains safe and secure.


  • Work with neighbouring Business Improvements Districts to ensure collaboration, identify opportunities and economies of scale. 

 
 
Environmental Operational Services
Manage the London Bridge public realm ensuring a world-class physical environment that is engaging and distinctive. The area needs to be inclusive and welcoming putting people their health and the environment first.Sustainability has to be truly embedded and developed into all areas of responsibility and delivery.

  • Develop and manage the network of public green space and street planting – liaising with contractors, BID members, landowners, Southwark Council and TfL in the process.


  • Manage the central contract with Southwark Council for additional street cleaning, and commission additional public realm cleaning and maintenance work through other providers where necessary.


  • Monitor and report on environmental issues to businesses and stakeholders through regular public realm audits.


  • Manage the subsidised recycling service by promoting it to BID members and ensuring a reliable service from the chosen contractor.


  • Manage the London Bridge Delivered food delivery and collection service – liaising with Slerp (or other), BID members and the TLB Marketing Manager to promote the service and encourage sign-ups.

 
Required Experience
We are looking for someone who can have an immediate impact in this role. Therefore, it is essential the individual has solid and extensive contract management experience, possibly in property management, and has a background in managing service delivery against set objectives. A familiarity working with security matters and liaison with the police force at a senior level is highly preferable, as is previous experience in working co-operatively with community groups.

We are looking for someone who has the availability to start at the beginning of February 2022 and who can commit to the 4-month period. Applicants must have the necessary right to work in the UK.
