BOND ACROSS THE POND

Join us for Brixton x Harlem Festival this Week

As part of an innovative twinning programme centred around shared values, Brixton BID and 125th Street BID (Harlem) are working together on a joint festival in Brixton. ATCM is encouraging members to join us there.

The festival will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of August and will feature a celebration of everything from food to music to enterprise.

The mission is to raise the quality of life of the communities by improving the economic health and wellbeing and by creating programmes that reflect the vibrancy and history of the neighbourhoods. This comes in the wake of the trauma of the pandemic, but also other events which have sparked social, economic, environmental and racial justice movements such as the murder of George Floyd in the US and the Windrush deportations in the UK.

ATCM CEO, Ojay McDonald, will be in Brixton in person on the 4th and 5th of August. Ojay said:

“I cannot wait to be part of this festival. This is an innovative way of creating ‘pride of place’ using a twinning programme with a clear understanding of shared values. We think it is the first twinning programme of its kind between neighbourhood BIDs. I want to give a special shout out to the teams of Brixton and 125th Street Harlem for the effort they have put in, and to the International Downtown Association who have helped us to facilitate and cultivate the relationship.”

‘Thinking Global, Acting Local’ was one of the highlights of ATCM’s Summer School in Cardiff. Join us in Brixton this week to find out why.
