The Place Management Conference 'Violence and Vulnerability' will now be followed by a meeting of the APPG for Town Centres on 'Local Responses to High Street Homelessness'

Places are limited so book now

Recent years have felt like a regression for the town and city management industry. Early partnerships successfully coalesced around keeping people and businesses safe, allowing place managers to broaden their remit into driving local growth.

Fast forward to 2018 where growing demands on police resource, the evolving threat of terrorism, the menace of gang culture and the drugs market, homelessness and rough sleeping have led to a refocus of many ATCM members back to the fundamentals of keeping people safe. On the 17th April, in Central London, our Place Management Conference will focus on Violence and Vulnerability, and will include the industry’s most advanced debate in understanding how to respond to these critical challenges.

Violence and Vulnerability will feature high presentations including:

  • The unveiling of key findings of the Violence and Vulnerability Programme, on gang culture in town and city centres, involving ATCM, the Home Office and MOPAC;
  • An introduction to WAVE from the Metropolitan Police, a package of support for vulnerable people in the night time economy;
  • Security v Liberty: A panel debate around balancing the aims of keeping a town centre attractive and open against keeping people safe.
  • Assessing the difficulties around communicating diverted giving to the general public and placing it within a message of compassion for the homeless, rough sleepers and street beggars.
  • On the Beat: A panel debate around stretched police resource, the impact it is having on town centres and understanding best practice in business crime reduction.

We hoped to be joined by a Home Office Minister on the day.

Delegates of the ATCM Place Management Conference will also be offered the opportunity join us at a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Town Centres who will discuss 'Local Responses to High Street Homelessness'. This meeting will be chaired by Jim McMahon MP, Shadow Minister for Local Government and Devolution. It will take place just one hour after the conclusion of the ATCM Place Management Conference, allowing delegates time to get to the Houses of Parliament. Register now as places will be limited.
