The South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) has the goal of improving the economy in the South West. This involves giving people the skills they need, encouraging enterprise and improving communications. SWRDA also promote the strengths of the region and help people to regenerate their communities. All our work is guided by the Regional Economic Strategy. The South West of England Regional Development Agency was established in 1999.
Advantage West Midlands
Advantage West Midlands was established by the Government in 1999 along with seven other RDAs (the London Development Agency was set up a year later), to transform England’s regions through sustainable economic development. All RDAs are non-departmental public bodies that are accountable to the Department of Trade and Industry. The foremost element of Advantage West Midlands is the development and delivery of the West Midlands Economic Strategy. This provides the framework, and defines the actions necessary, for the region’s economic development and regeneration. Advantage West Midlands invests approximately £300 million each year into activity that will help deliver this strategy.
East of England Development Agency (EEDA)
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) is the driving force behind sustainable economic growth and regeneration in the East of England. Its task is to improve the region’s economic performance and ensure the East of England remains one of the UK’s top performing regions. EEDA has grown rapidly in its first five years. EEDA’s agenda is constantly developing and growing as the government devolves new and varied responsibilities to RDAs. EEDA is adopting a new way of working which emphasises our role as a regional leader and catalyst and which will help us influence the £25 billion of public spending in the East of England. With a budget of £90 million in 2004/5 EEDA’s challenge is to deliver sustainable economic growth with a budget that equals only 0.1 per cent of the region’s gross domestic product (GDP).
East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA)
East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England. They were set up by Government in April 1999 to bring a regional focus to economic development. Its business-led Board leads the agency in directing a wide ranging strategy and business programme, focusing on the following 3 Key drivers, which include enterprise and innovation; climate for investment; and employment, learning and skills. Our vision for the East Midlands is to take it into Europe’s Top 20 regions by 2010. This energising yet hugely ambitious quest will see the East Midlands become a place where people want to live, work and invest because of its vibrant economy; its healthy, safe, diverse and inclusive society; and its quality environment.

The Agency's superb record in helping to enhance the local economy by responding to the needs of business in Wales and attracting investment to all areas of the Principality make it perhaps the most successful development agency in Europe. Investors in Wales have brought over £12 billion into the country and continue to reinvest once established. Through its own work and the partnerships facilitated by access to European programmes funding, further billions are already committed to investment in Wales, now and in the future.
