THE SWEDISH ASSOCIATION OF TOWN CENTRE MANAGEMENT

Organisation
The organisation Swedish Association of Town Centre Management (SATCM) has some 200 members consisting of local authorities, government agencies, organisations, property owners, shop keepers, other commercial interests and private individuals. The common theme is an interest for, and insight into, the importance of town centre renewal.
The organisation has a board with 11 active members. We have an office in Örebro with a managing director who looks after the daily routines. The organisation is run in the form of a limited company.
In order to reap ideas from different angles and produce a lively debate we have instigated a special town centre academy. This comprises representatives from our supporting members, and a number of key persons who have displayed special interest for town centre matters.

This is how we work
Basically the organisation's activities fall into three categories:

  • 1. Members activities
Under this category we include that part of our work which is orientated towards our members including conferences, courses, manager training, news letters, study tours, advisory services, and our town centre academy activities.
  • 2. Marketing and commercial politics
An important task for the organisation is to stimulate professional town centre renewal around Sweden. We do this through newspaper articles, publications, participation in official debates, and visits to local authorities. We annually nominate "The Year's Town Centre".
  • 3. Development and training
Qualified, trained personnel are necessary to maintain a high level of town centre renewal in Sweden. The Organisation has therefore actively involved itself in the Royal University of Technology in Jönköping.
